LASIK, which stands for "Laser in Situ Keratomileusis," is a refractive surgery technique that corrects myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism using a laser.
Lasik is performed under local anesthesia with very powerful anesthetic drops.
The surgeon will first cut a thin flap of cornea with a femtosecond laser.
This flap will remain attached by a small lateral hinge.
The surgeon will lift the corneal flap and access the deeper layers of the corneal stroma, where they will use an excimer laser beam to reshape the cornea and reduce the thickness of central tissues.
After the cornea has been reshaped, the surgeon will carefully reposition the corneal flap without using sutures, allowing it to naturally adhere to the reshaped tissue and conform to the new corneal surface.
A slight discomfort at the corner of the eye or under the eyelid may be felt, which will gradually diminish over time.
A temporary blurred sensation may be experienced, which will fade immediately after applying artificial tears regularly.
Red marks on the white part of the eye may appear, so it is important to avoid rubbing or touching your eyes.
It is recommended to wear sunglasses on sunny days and protective eyewear at night.
Improvement can be felt during the first few days following the operation, with stabilization occurring after 6 months.
